We intentionally keep data collection light. We do not create user accounts, store copied emoji content, or sell data. We collect the following categories of information:

• Device & usage analytics: We use privacy-friendly analytics to understand page views, language preferences, and copy button usage. These metrics help us improve tutorials and prioritize new languages.
• Error & performance logs: When a client-side error occurs, we log anonymized diagnostic data (browser version, OS, stack trace) so engineers can reproduce and fix the issue.
• Contact submissions: Messages sent through the contact emails include the sender’s email address and any information provided voluntarily.

2. Cookies & Similar Technologies

ShrugMoji relies on essential cookies to remember interface preferences such as chosen language, favorite shrug variants, or copy counts stored in localStorage. We do not track users across other websites. Advertising slots served through Google AdSense may set additional cookies; you can manage those preferences through Google’s ad settings or your browser controls.

You may disable non-essential storage by modifying your browser settings. Doing so will not break core copy functionality, but it may reset personalization features like favorites and recently used variants.

3. How We Use Data

We use collected data to operate, maintain, and improve ShrugMoji. Typical use cases include:

• Monitoring copy success rates to identify broken variants or encoding issues.
• Prioritizing localization work based on language demand and feedback volume.
• Diagnosing crashes, layout bugs, or accessibility barriers so we can patch them quickly.
• Responding to support requests and safeguarding against spam or abuse.

4. Advertising & Affiliate Disclosure

ShrugMoji displays limited advertising to keep the project sustainable. Ads are clearly labeled and appear in fixed placements so they never obscure the main content. We do not use personalized remarketing on shrugmoji.com. When we recommend third-party tools, we disclose affiliate relationships or sponsorships in the surrounding copy. Editorial decisions remain independent; advertisers do not influence our tutorials or guides.

5. Data Retention & Storage

Analytics data is aggregated and retained for 14 months. Error logs that contain IP addresses are automatically pruned within 30 days. Contact emails are stored for the duration of the conversation plus six months, after which they are archived or anonymized unless we have a legal obligation to keep them longer.

6. Data Sharing & Processors

We work with a small number of subprocessors. Each provider is vetted for GDPR and CCPA compliance and bound by contractual data protection terms.

• Vercel: hosts our Next.js application and stores server logs.
• Google Analytics (with IP anonymization): captures aggregate traffic metrics.
• Google AdSense: serves contextual advertisements and handles payment reporting.
• Email service providers: manage inbound and outbound email, spam filtering, and secure storage.

7. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or port personal data we hold about you. To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected] with “Privacy Request” in the subject line. We may need to verify your identity before processing the request.

We will respond within 30 days. If you disagree with our response, you can appeal by replying to the same email thread or contact your local data protection authority.

8. Children’s Privacy

ShrugMoji is designed for users aged 13 and above. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If a parent or guardian believes their child has provided us with personal data, contact [email protected] and we will delete the data promptly.

9. Accessibility Commitments

10. Changes to This Policy

We update the privacy policy when our tooling, legal obligations, or data practices change. The “last updated” date always reflects the most recent revision. Major changes trigger a banner notification on the homepage and a summary in the blog. Archived versions are available upon request.
